hey everyone just wanna recommmend a very good prog on central, call Child Of Our Time. every thur 10pm. pls, if u got the time watch it. i seldom find such good documentary on central.
maybe some of your will know wats the prog abt. but basically i find it really good cos it tries to discuss and research abt whether humans are shaped by nature or nurture.it also talks abt many other issues like how family relationship, parents' childhood, and characters affect children. in general, ppl who know me well enough will know that im not interested in early childhood education, or bringing up kids lah, or how to make them smart and happy etc. wat i like abt this prog is tt really attempts to show us that alot of times, its the parents and the whole family that determines a person's nature(at least from watch i have watched till now, this is my feeling). even though the parents are unaware of it, but very often, the way they speak and discipline children will show on the kids. kids who seem to be happier and friendlier are often becoz their parents are close to them. in contrast there's this 1yr old little girl who's extremely rebellious and just refuses to listen to her mother. when the prog focused on the mother, u will realise that very often she just orders the daughter abt and does not make much effort to foster close bonds. as a result like wat the narrator say(something like)after an experiment," the child dun see the need to be with her mother. she dun feel lonely or insecure without her mother. this is rather strange for a young baby..."(cos there's this test, the girl did not cry at all when she was left all alone in a room after her mother was asked to walk out) i especially love the experiments done by the experts to compare all these babies and see how diff factors actually contribute to creating diff in everyone...
as for the nature part, currently they are just trying to compare if premature babies are indeed not as smart as normal ones. but i believe they are gg to show more on the nature part... currently the last experiment i watched, it showed that seriously premature babies indeed lag behind others in terms of brain development and intelligence... im gg to wait for the next area they are gg to talk abt...
watever it is, its really a very good doc. at least u will def gain some knowledge and come to realise alot of things. at the very least, i got the feeling that im fortunate to have a happy family and that when im gg to be a parent in future, i will def be clever enough to know wats really better for children... at least dun make things
worse. haha...
